Madird - The European Union is set to open its doors wide to qualified immigrants with its blue card system, and at the same time slam them even more tightly shut to undocumented workers, of whom there are 10 million in the bloc, including 700,000 in Spain. In Spain, as in the rest of Europes, the entry requirements for foreigners who are well qualified are being made more flexible, prompting "heavy brain drain from countries of the South, while we refuse to increase the number of entry permits for unskilled workers," Gonzalo Fanjul, coordinator of research for Intermon Oxfam, told IPS. |

Brussels - A body tasked with shaping European Union policy on biofuels is dominated by companies with a vested interest in promoting this source of energy, environmentalists have claimed. In early 2008, the European Biofuels Technology Platform will publish a report outlining a program for greater research and development into how crops grown on farmland can be used to quench Europe's ever-growing thirst for transport fuels. |

In 2004 the Wall was confirmed by the International Court of Justice as being in violation of international law.
